Alan Cumming Biography

 



Alan Cumming was born on 27 January 1965. In the town of Aberfeldy, Scotland, Alan Cumming was brought into the world by his parents, Mary and Alex Cumming. While his father held the position of forester at the ‘Atholl Estate,’ his mother held the position of secretary at an insurance company. After moving to what became known as the “Panmure estate” in 1969, Alan and his older brother Tom were able to complete their childhoods there. Cumming went to Monikie Primary School and Carnoustie High School throughout his formative years. He was born and raised in Carnoustie, which is located in Scotland. During his time as a student, he was an active member of the “Carnoustie Theatre Club” as well as the “Carnoustie Musical Society,” for both of which he participated and attended performances. In addition, he was a member of the “Carnoustie Musical Society.”

After graduating from high school in 1981, Alan went straight into the publishing sector by taking a job with DC Thomson Publishers. This was the beginning of Alan’s successful career in the publishing industry. He worked as a sub-editor for the music monthly Tops and used the column “Young Alan” to respond to questions from the magazine’s readers. Alan, who possessed an exceptional amount of talent, launched his professional acting career before he had even completed his education. In 1982, he became a student at the “Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama” with the intention of receiving instruction in local theater. His supporting roles in “Macbeth” and “Passing Glory” were both played by him.
