Alex Gibney Biography

 

Philip Alexander “Alex” Gibney is an American director of documentaries as well as a producer of such films. He was born on October 23, 1953. Esquire magazine stated in 2010 that Gibney “is becoming the most important documentarian of our time.”

Gibney is the son of Harriet, a journalist, and Frank Gibney, who was also a journalist. It was the Reverend William Sloane Coffin who was his stepfather. Following his time at Pomfret School, Gibney continued his education at Yale University, where he received his bachelor’s degree. He then continued his education at the UCLA Film School.
