Eric Stoltz Biography
Eric Stoltz was born on September 30th, 1961. Both of his parents worked in education; in fact, his mother was a teacher as well as a member of the school orchestra. His sister, Susan, is a novelist, and his other sister, Catherine, is an opera singer. While Stoltz was a child, he split his time between growing up in American Samoa and Santa Barbara, California. It was in California that he first discovered his love for music, and more specifically the piano. In Santa Barbara, he enjoyed a high level of success as a pianist for many musical theater productions.
Over the course of his life, he developed an increasing interest in acting, which finally turned into a successful acting career for him. Stoltz received his high school education at San Marcos, where he became active in the school’s theatrical club. After graduating from high school in 1979, he enrolled at the University of Southern California, but he only stayed there for a single year before dropping out. In 1981, he uprooted his life and traveled to New York in order to study acting under the tutelage of renowned theater professionals Stella Adler and Peggy Feury. Eric Stoltz first gained significant recognition for his performance as Rocky Dennis in Peter Bogdanovich’s film Mask, which was released in 1990.
