Sean Diddy Combs, well known by his stage name Puff Daddy, exemplifies the term “mogul.” He began his career as the director of A&R at Uptown Records, where he played an instrumental role in launching the careers of Mary J. Blige and Jodeci. Later, he started his own label, Bad Boy Records, which has fostered the careers of artists such as Mariah Carey, Method Man, Boyz II Men, Lil’ Kim, and many more.

Sean John Combs was born on November 4, 1969, in Harlem, New York City. He was raised in Mount Vernon as the son of Janice, a model and teacher’s assistant, and Melvin Earl Combs, a veteran of the United States Air Force who passed away when Sean was just two years old. Melvin Earl Combs was a heroin dealer for Frank “Country Boy” Lucas and was killed for being a snitch.
