Leslie Uggams Biography

 

Leslie Uggams is an African-American legend in the entertainment industry, both as an actor and a singer. Her meteoric climb to popularity in the United States occurred at a period in which racial discrimination was a significant role. She was a trailblazer for many African-American actresses and artists that came after her in the industry. She began her career as a young performer on the television series “Beulah,” and has since gone on to have a successful career in movies, on television, and on stage.

‘Two Weeks in Another Town,’ ‘Skyjacked,’ ‘Poor Pretty Eddie,’ and ‘The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks’ are among the most well-known films that Leslie Uggams has been a part of. Uggams is also well-remembered for her roles as Kizzy Reynolds in the television series “Roots” and Lilian Roger Parks in the film “Backstairs at the White House.” Both of these roles earned her critical acclaim.
