Christina Ochoa Biography

 

Cristina Ochoa Lopez was the name given to Ochoa when she was born on January 25th, 1985 in Barcelona, Spain. Her father, Victor Ochoa, is a master muralist, in addition to being an activist, a painter, and a graphic designer. She spent her childhood in Madrid, Barcelona, and Miami, among other places. Her great-uncle Severo Ochoa, a Spanish-American physician, and biochemist, was awarded a portion of the Nobel Prize for his discovery of mechanisms in the biological synthesis of RNA and DNA. This work was recognized as one of the most significant contributions to the field in recent history.

After completing her studies at the Santa Isabel La Asuncion in Madrid, she went on to pursue an undergraduate degree in oceanographic engineering at the Universidad de las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Following that, she relocated to Australia, where she enrolled at James Cook University to pursue a degree in marine biology with a concentration on Elasmobranchii, which is a subclass of Chondrichthyes, also known as cartilaginous fish.
