Tony Evans Biography

 


Within the realm of evangelicalism, Dr. Tony Evans is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in the nation. In his roles as pastor, teacher, author, and speaker, he ministers to the body of Christ by virtue of his exceptional capacity to explain intricate theological concepts by means of images that are simple yet deep. Dr. Evans is regarded as being a relevant expositor due to the fact that he addresses the practical challenges of today. Both beginning and seasoned ministers look forward to him as a model of pastoral leadership and a spiritual patriarch. He was the first African-American to graduate from Dallas Theological Seminary (DTS) with a Ph.D. degree. After graduation, he worked as an associate professor in the Pastoral Ministries Department of DTS, teaching courses in the fields of evangelism, homiletics, and black church studies.

He is still serving DTS on the Board of Incorporated Members to this day. Dr. Evans has the distinct privilege of being the person who has held the position of chaplain for the Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association (NBA) throughout the whole of its existence, making his tenure there the longest on record for any NBA chaplaincy. Additionally, he is the chaplain for the Dallas Cowboys football team. Dr. Evans advocates a concept known as the Kingdom agenda via the local church he pastors as well as through his national ministry. This philosophy demonstrates God’s all-encompassing authority over all aspects of life, including the person, the family, the church, and society. This approach integrates the spirituality of the Bible with a concern for the welfare of society.
