He became well-known thanks to his portrayals of Major Richard Winters in Band of Brothers and Sergeant Nicholas Brody in Homeland. In the UK, Damian Lewis is well-known not only for his performances in these two shows but also as a producer. Lewis was nominated for both a Golden Globe and an Emmy for his performance as Henry VIII in the English opera Wolf Hall.

Throughout their time at school together, Lewis and his younger brother Gareth were close friends. Neither came from a family with a tradition in the movies, but both had an early interest in performance. Lewis attended both Ashdown House School and Eton College for his first two years of college. His resume includes stints as a telemarketer and an actor with the Royal Shakespeare Company before he found fame in Hollywood. He and his wife, Helen McCrory, are the doting parents of two children.
