Janet McTeer Biography
Janet was born on August 5, 1961. When she was six years old, her family relocated to York. Once known as the “Queen Anne Grammar School for Girls,” Janet attended this institution. She first found employment in a bar at York Minster called the “Olde Starre Inn.” Janet’s interest in acting was sparked by a visit to the “York Theatre Royal,” where she saw the play “She Stoops to Conquer.” She was a waiter in the theater. When Janet was working as a barista, English actor and filmmaker Gary Oldman walked in and recommended that she attend the prestigious ‘Royal Academy of Dramatic Art’ (RADA).
After that, Janet became a member of “RADA,” where she went on to get the “Bancroft Gold Medal” for her performance as the finest actor and the “Best Stage Fight” award. She had previously appeared at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre with the “Rowntree Players.” She started her career as a stage actor at the “Royal Exchange Theatre” after graduating in the early 1980s.
