Sam Esmail Biography

 

Sam Esmail was born ion September 17, 1977. Aside from his older sister, not much is known about his two younger brothers. Although Esmail went to school in Summerville, South Carolina, he ultimately graduated from Washington Township High School. He then continued his education at New York University, where he earned a double degree in film and computer science.

Sam’s fascination with technology began when he was just five years old, shortly after he and his family relocated from North Carolina to South Carolina. He enrolled at AFI Conservatory in 2001 and, three years later, earned an MFA in film direction. Esmail started his own company, Portal Vision, after working for a few internet startups after finishing college. He has edited episodes of shows on Lifetime, A&E, and Comedy Central, and he has worked on a number of other shows as well.
