Nicole Richie Biography

 

On September 21, 1981, Nicole Camille Escovedo, later Nicole Camille Richie-Madden, was born into a musical family of mixed ancestry in Berkeley, California. Peter Michael Escovedo III, her biological father, is a renowned percussionist and musical director of mixed Mexican and Creole African-American ancestry.

Her mother, Karen Moss, is a native English speaker. Sister-in-law Sheila Cecelia Escovedo is a percussionist and singer who has worked successfully with Prince Rogers Nelson, and Moss was her backstage assistant. Nicole often accompanied her struggling biological parents to concerts as a kid. Lionel Richie may have seen her playing the tambourine during one of Prince’s concerts in 1984 when she was just three years old. Astounded, he went offstage to introduce himself to her family.
