Tony Abbott Biography

 


Tony Abbott is a well-known politician in his home country of Australia. He was the country’s 28th Prime Minister and has represented the constituency of Warringah in the Australian Parliament since 1994. After receiving his degree from Oxford, Abbott pursued careers in the fields of journalism, management, and political advisory work. In the year 1992, Abbott was given the position of Director of Australians for Constitutional Monarchy. Following the results of the elections that took place in 1998, he was first appointed to the cabinet as a member of the Second Howard Ministry and given the role of Minister for Employment, Workplace Relations, and Small Business.

In addition to that, he held the position of Minister for Health and Ageing and participated in the Shadow Cabinets of both Malcolm Turnbull and Brendan Nelson. In 2009, Abbott resigned from his position on the front bench in order to voice his disapproval of Turnbull’s support for the Emissions Trading Scheme that was being implemented by the Rudd government. In the same year, he was victorious against Turnbull and won the election for the role of leader of the Liberal Party of India as well as the position of Leader of the Opposition.
