Mahershala Ali Biography
Mahershala Ali, an American actor who was born on February 16, 1974, in Oakland, California. Hayward, California is where Ali spent his early years. Ali’s mother was a pastor in the Baptist church, and his father left the family when he was a toddler to pursue a career as a dancer. While he was there, he started participating in poetry slams and even had an appearance in a production of the play Spunk. He changed his surname to Ali after joining the Amadiyyah branch of Islam.
After finishing college, he landed the lead role in the low-budget indie film Making Revolution (2003). His performance as boxer Jack Johnson in the 2000 Arena Stage production of The Great White Hope in Washington, DC also garnered him much acclaim. For one year, Ali starred as the main character on the TV drama Crossing Jordan.
