Doug Mastrian Biography

 



Doug Mastriano is a war veteran and the son of a US Navy sailor who served for his whole career. He has worked as a paperboy, janitor, security guard, short-order cook, pizza delivery guy, and dishwasher in addition to achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. Doug received his commission in the United States Army in 1986 and served with the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment in West Germany while stationed on the other side of the Iron Curtain. He observed the end of the Cold War while serving at the East German and Czechoslovakian borders. After that, he was transferred to Iraq for Operation Desert Storm (1991) to liberate Kuwait.

His unit was in charge of leading the assault against Saddam’s elite Republican Guard soldiers when it happened. After that, Doug served in the United States Army Europe, the 3rd Infantry Division, and Washington, District of Columbia. Following the attacks on September 11, Mastriano served as the primary architect for the campaign to invade Iraq via Turkey. He spent a total of three tours in Afghanistan throughout his four years of service with NATO. Mastriano served as the head of the NATO Joint Intelligence Center in Afghanistan, where he oversaw a team of eighty employees from eighteen different countries. Doug spearheaded seven different relief efforts to assist orphans in Afghanistan on his own initiative. He finished his career as a professor at the U.S. Army War College (PAWC) in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, where he instructed students working for their master’s degrees in Strategic Studies. His students included future senior executives.
